New Delhi: The Ministry of Defence on Tuesday told Supreme Court that the UPSC notification for entry of women candidates into NDA would be out by May 2022.

Earlier on September 8, the Centre has said women will now be inducted in the National Defence Academy (NDA) for permanent commission into India’s armed forces. It had requested exemption of women from the current year NDA admissions citing the need to make infrastructural changes.

A bench comprising Justices Sanjay Kishan Kaul and Hrishikesh Roy had observed, “This is a policy decision based on gender discrimination…respondents (Centre), must take a constructive view.”
