New Delhi: Congress in its bid to gain public support in Uttar Pradesh, especially among women voters, the party on Sunday again announced that 40 per cent of candidates fielded by the party assembly elections in the state would be women.
Congress party on Sunday tweeted, “In efforts to increase the participation of women in politics, women will be given a reservation of 40 per cent seat in the upcoming Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections 2022.”
The party further added, “We will keep our promise (Hum vachan nibhayenge).”
Earlier, national general secretary of Congress Priyanka Gandhi Vadra at a press conference in October 2021 announced the seat reservation for women with an intention to woo women voters in the state.
In October last year, the AICC national general secretary and in charge of party affairs in Uttar Pradesh said that the decision was aimed at making women, who constitute roughly half of the electorate, a “full-fledged partner in power”.
The Election Commission announced the dates for the Uttar Pradesh Assembly polls on Saturday, January 8. Uttar Pradesh Assembly Elections will begin from February 10, 2022 and will continue till March 7, 2022.
The elections will take place in seven phases for the poll-bound state.
The dates for the seven phases of UP elections are: February 10, 14, 20, 23, 27, March 3 and 7. Uttar Pradesh Assembly Elections 2022 will take place in 403 assembly constituencies.
