Uttarakhand Rains: 16 Dead Amid Incessant Rains, Nainital Cut-Off From Rest Of The State

The Met department has warned of heavy rain in mountainous regions of Uttarakhand, including Chardham, for the next two days. As a result, the Badrinath yatra was stopped at Pandukeswar.

Uttarakhand: Eleven more deaths were reported in Uttarakhand on Tuesday as incessant rains continued to lash various parts of the state, especially Kumaon region, razing houses to the ground and leaving many trapped in the debris. Nainital was cut off from the rest of the state with three roads leading to the popular tourist spot blocked due to a series of landslides.

Eleven deaths in rain related-incidents were reported on Tuesday, while many people are feared trapped in rubble following cloudbursts and landslides, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami told reporters in Dehradun.This takes the toll in rain-related incidents across Uttarakhand to 16, with five deaths reported on Monday, he said. 

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami visited disaster management control room in Dehradun, on October 18. The Chief Minister spoke with the District Magistrates of Pauri and Rudraprayag and took stock of the latest situation. He has directed the officials to give hourly reports on the rain and traffic situation in each district and to extend all possible help to the passengers.

As per ANI, SDRF & Police rescued around 22 devotees stuck at Jungle Chatti yesterday while from Kedarnath Temple. They were later shifted to Gauri Kund.

Meanwhile, the IMD has forecasted heavy rainfall and thunderstorm in the state.
