No Lockdown In Delhi, All Private Offices To Work From Home, Says CM Arvind Kejriwal

New Delhi: The Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Tuesday denied that the State government will impose a lockdown in the national capital despite a steady rise in the number of COVID-19 cases.

“About 22,000 COVID cases with a positivity rate of 24-25% in the last few days…Don’t worry, we will not impose lockdown…At the DDMA meet we requested Central govt officials to cover the entire NCR for restrictions, they assured us on the same, ” assured Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal while interacting with the media in New Delhi.

He also announced Delhi government will launch special yoga classes that will teach pranayam to Covid positive and the links will be functional from tomorrow.

“Special Yoga and pranayam classes will be brought in by Delhi government for COVID positive patients staying in home isolation. Yoga boosts immunity. We will send them a link today and classes to begin from tomorrow in different batches,” added Kejriwal.

On Tuesday, DDMA ordered that all private offices in Delhi will be closed, except those which are falling under the exempted category. Employees are ordered to work from home. All restaurants and bars have also been closed only takeaways have been allowed, the Delhi body said in its revised guidelines.

On Monday, Delhi logged 17 more deaths due to COVID-19 and 19,166 infections in a day as the positivity rate rose to 25 per cent, the highest since May 4 last year, according to the city health department’s data.

The city had reported the same number of Covid deaths on Sunday too. In just 10 days, Delhi has recorded 70 Covid deaths.

The 22,752 new cases reported on Sunday was the highest since May 1 last year when the city saw 25,219 infections with a positivity rate of 31.61 per cent.

Delhi saw fewer cases on Monday with the number of tests conducted the previous day being lower than the day before.

A total of 1,912 Covid patients are in hospitals. Of them, 65 are on ventilator support, government data showed. The city currently has 65,803 active cases of which 44,028 are in home isolation.

On Tuesday, Lt Governor Anil Baijal directed the police commissioner and divisional commissioner (revenue) to strictly ensure compliance with Covid-appropriate behaviour in line with the latest guidelines of the Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA).

Amid rise in the coronavirus cases, the Delhi government has taken action against 4,434 people on Monday for not wearing masks in public or work places, according to official data.

The data stated that 4,434 people were challaned for violation of masks, 107 for not maintaining social distancing, 17 people for spitting in public places and two for consumption of liquor/pan/gutkha/tobacco etc., in public places in its 11 districts. The highest violation for mask was recorded in southeast district 780 followed by east 730, north 583 and southwest 559.

The lowest was recorded in New Delhi district 156, it said. Enforcement teams of Revenue Department have formed flying squads to take action against big gatherings, and violations of social-distancing norms at restaurants, hotels, markets and other such places.

The intervention came in the wake of reports on overcrowding at the city’s market places. Police officers and field functionaries have been directed to immediately ensure strict enforcement of the DDMA order, they had said.
