New Delhi: As Maharashtra continues to report a high number of daily new cases, Western Railways informed through a statement that it has collected a total fine of Rs 8.83 lakh between March 1 to 6 from those who were travelling through the railways without wearing a face mask.
The fine collected in these six days exceeded the fine collected in the month of February, when the Western Railways, in a joint effort with the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), collected a total fine of Rs 5.97 lakh. A total of 3,819 commuters were fined after they were caught travelling without face masks.
With 430 fines, the highest number of cases were reported on February 26, resulting in a collection of Rs 75,200 in fines. Maharashtra continues to report the highest number of COVID-19 cases in the country with 11,141 new cases in the last 24 hours. The total number of cases in the state stands at 99,205.
