With 9 Cases Of Omicron Detected In Jaipur, India’s Tally Jumps To 21

A family of nine on Sunday tested positive for Omicron in Rajasthan’s Jaipur. Earlier in the day, 7 more cases had been detected in Maharashtra while Delhi also confirmed its first case of the ‘variant of concern’.

New Delhi: With seven in Maharashtra, nine in Jaipur and a man in Delhi found infected with the variant of COVID-19 on Sunday, the total tally of Omicron cases in India is now 21.

A family of nine on Sunday tested positive for the Omicron variant of COVID-19 in Rajasthan’s Jaipur. The genome sequencing of the samples of nine people on December 5 confirmed the Omicron variant.

The state health department has informed that the people who came in contact with the nine Omicron patients have been isolated.

A few hours ago, four persons who returned from foreign tours and three of their close contacts were tested positive for Omicron variant in Pune, Maharashtra. With seven testing positive for the variant, the tally of India’s positive cases reached 12.

Meanwhile, India reported its fifth Omicron positive case in Delhi on Sunday.

On Saturday, a South Africa returnee tested positive for Omicron in Maharashtra’s Kalyan-Dombivli and another case was reported in Gujarat’s Jamnagar.

The first two cases of Omicron strain were confirmed in two individuals in Karnataka. On Thursday, two cases of Omicron cases were detected in Karnataka — one 66-year-old is a South African national who had left the country after testing negative, while the other is a local person — a doctor aged 46, with no travel history.
