Yediyurappa’s Granddaughter Found Dead At Bengaluru Apartment

The cause of death will be determined after the postmortem results.

New Delhi: Former Karnataka chief minister B S Yediyurappa’s granddaughter Soundarya was on Friday found dead at a private apartment in Bengaluru, the BJP leader’s office said. The body of the deceased was sent to the Bowring and Lady Curzon Hospital in Bengaluru for postmortem.

The cause of death is yet to be determined. According to reports, the police have registered a case of “unnatural death”.

Karnataka Law Minister KC Madhuswamy, who reached the hospital said, “I got the information just now, so I arrived at the hospital. The reason is not known to us. The post mortem is over.”

Soundarya, 30, was the daughter of Yediyurappa’s oldest daughter Padma. A doctor by profession, she was married two years ago. Her husband Dr Neeraj S works in the same hospital where she was employed.

On Friday morning, Neeraj left for duty while she was home at their Vasant Nagar residence here. The matter came to light when the maid came to the house and knocked on the door repeatedly but in vain. She informed Dr Neeraj, who too called on his wife’s phone but there was no response, PTI quoted the police as saying. The door was then opened by force.

Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai and other ministers and senior BJP leaders visited Yediyurappa’s home after learning of his granddaughter’s demise. Her last rites were performed in Neeraj’s farmhouse in the city.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, former Prime Minister H D Deve Gowda and former Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy called up Yediyurappa over the phone and conveyed their condolences, sources close to Yediyurappa said.

Former chief minister Siddaramaiah and Congress state president D K Shivakumar expressed grief over the untimely death of Soundarya.
