Kerala Floods: Gates Of Idamalayar, Pampa Dam Opened

The state government said that there red alert has been issued for 10 dams in Kerala. The heavy rain related incidents have claimed lives of 35 people in the southern state.

Kerala: The sluice gates of Idamalayar and Pampa reservoirs were opened early on Tuesday in the wake of increase in the water level and more rains forecast in the coming days in Kerala. The development comes a day after the state government opened the shutters of Kakki and Sholayar dams to release surplus water.

At least 35 people have died in landslides and floods triggered by heavy rains in parts of Kerala, officials said on Sunday, as rescue operations for survivors and the military were present with emergency supplies.

As per the State’s Department of Information and Public Relations, two shutters of Idamalayar Dam in Ernakulam district have been opened on Tuesday morning. The present water level of the dam is said to be at 165.70 m with the full reservoir level being 169 m & maximum water level being 171 m.

Meanwhile, The Health Department has issued an alert against leptospirosis outbreaks as rain and related floods are likely to continue in the State in the days to come.
