New Delhi: The Kerala High Court on Friday restrained the state police from arresting Malayalam actor Dileep till Tuesday (January 18) for allegedly threatening officials probing the case of assault and abduction of an actress. The court, which was scheduled to hear the actor’s anticipatory bail plea, postponed the hearing till Tuesday.
Dileep is one of the eight people accused in the abduction and molestation case of an actress. The case pertains to the alleged abduction of the actress on the night of February 17, 2017 by a group of men who had forced their way into the vehicle and molested her.
Earlier on Sunday, Dileep was booked by the Crime Branch of Kerala Police for threatening the probe officials. He faces charges under IPC sections 116 (abetment of offence punishable with imprisonment), 118 (concealing design to commit offence punishable with death or imprisonment for life), 120B (party to criminal conspiracy), 506 (criminal intimidation), and 34 (criminal act done by several people) by the Crime Branch. Dileep is named as the first accused in the FIR.
The case was registered after the audio clips came to the fore. According to these audio clips, Dileep and others allegedly threatened the officials who were investigating the actress’ assault case. At the same time, Balachandra Kumar, the director also told the police that Dileep did the same.
In one of the tapes, one person allegedly identified as Anoop, Dileep’s brother, can be beard talking about a conspiracy to kill investigating officer Baiju Paulose. The conservation allegedly took place in November 2017 at the actor’s house in Aluva in Ernakulam district, the SIT said in its FIR.
