A mother plays multiple roles in one’s life, and motherhood is an irreplaceable feeling. To honour the person who dedicates everything for the wellbeing of her child and family, Mother’s Day is celebrated every year. On this day, we express our love and gratitude, and celebrate and honour them for loving us unconditionally. In India, Mother’s Day is celebrated on the second Sunday of May, and this year, it will be celebrated on May 8.

History Of Mother’s Day

It is believed that in 1908, a woman named Anna Jarvis wished to commemorate Mother’s Day as a holiday, to honour her mother Ann Reese Jarvis. Anna had a memorial for her mother at St. Andrews Methodist Church in West Virginia in the USA. It is believed this was the first time Mother’s Day was celebrated.

While India celebrates Mother’s Day on the second Sunday of May, other countries follow a different day.

What to do for your mothers?

In today’s world, everyone is busy with their lives. One hardly finds time to appreciate the little, yet important things in life. And we often forget to thank our mothers for their sacrifice and love for their family. This Mother’s Day, take out time for your mother, buy her what she loves the most and spend some time with her.

Talk to her

You might talk to your mother everyday, but when was the last time you had a conversation with her? This Mother’s Day, you could sit down, talk to your mother, share your thoughts and also give some ear to hers.

Take her out

Some mothers are confined to their homes everyday, while the family is out working. This Mother’s Day, you can take your mother out, buy her favourite food and relieve her from her daily chores at home.

Cook her favourite food

We all make requests to our mothers to cook our favourite dish. For a change, on Mother’s Day, step into the kitchen and surprise her by cooking her favourite food.

Fulfil her wish

Often, as mothers play multiple roles, they are unable to fulfil their small dreams. Be it going on a trip, or a picnic with family or watching a movie. This Mother’s Day, find out what your mother misses doing the most and make sure to fulfil her dream.
