Vishwakarma Puja 2021: Date, Significance And All You Need To Know

Vishwakarma Puja falls on the last day of the Bengali month Bhadra which is also known as Bhadra Sankranti or Kanya Sankranti.

New Delhi: Lord Vishwakarma, the son of Lord Brahma and chief architect of the world, is worshipped on Kanya Sankranti.

Vishwakarma Puja calculations are done according to Bisuddhasidhanta. Vishwakarma Puja falls on the last day of the Bengali month Bhadra which is also known as Bhadra Sankranti or Kanya Sankranti.

Vishwakarma Puja 2021: Date And Time

This year it will be celebrated on September 17 and the time of Sankranti is 1:29 am.

Vishwakarma Puja: Significance

Rituals are performed in factories and mechanics/ artisans/ technicians/sculptors/carpenters’ workshops. They set up an idol of the lord in factories, mills and workshops and organise special pujas to honour him.

Vishwakarma Puja is celebrated in Assam, Tripura, West Bengal, Odisha, Bihar, Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh and Karnataka. 

As per, Kanya Sankranti marks the beginning of the sixth month in Hindu Solar Calendar.

All twelve Sankrantis in the year are highly auspicious for Dan-Punya activities. Only certain time duration before or after each Sankranti moment is considered auspicious for Sankranti related activities.

For Kanya Sankranti sixteen Ghatis after the Sankranti moment are considered Shubh or auspicious and the time window from Sankranti to sixteen Ghati after Sankranti is taken for all Dan-Punya activities.

Kanya Sankranti day is also celebrated as Vishwakarma Puja. In South India Sankranti is called as Sankramanam.
