Andhra Pradesh Municipal election results 2021: Landslide victory to YSRCP, wins 74 out of 75 municipalities

This victory to YSCRP comes on the back of its win in the recently concluded panchayat elections where they managed to bag more than 80% seats, with TDP ending as a distant second.

Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP) won 74 out of 75 municipalities and 9 out of 12 corporations on Sunday (March 14, 2021). Elections were held for 12 municipal corporations and counting is pending in Eluru corporation after the High Court order. Counting  Vijayawada and Vishakapatnam Corporation is still underway where the YSRCP has a good lead.

In Mydukur municipality, TDP has won 12 wards while YSRCP has won 11 but the YSRCP candidate will become the Chairperson with Ex Officio vote.

A triangular bout was anticipated among the ruling Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP), Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) in the 12 municipal corporations, which also includes Greater Visakhapatnam, Guntur and Vijayawada, and 75 Municipalities and Nagar Panchayats.

The Jagan Mohan Reddy-led party even managed to make significant progress into the Kuppam assembly constituency, a bastion of TDP Chief Chandrababu Naidu. Voting for the 12 municipal corporations and 75 municipalities and Nagar panchayats in Andhra Pradesh concluded on March 10.

Elections were being held for 2,214 wards in 12 municipal corporations and 71 municipalities. In 12 municipal corporations, there are 671 divisions. In 90 of those divisions, a candidate won unanimously without contest. Elections were being held in the remaining 581 divisions. In these 12 corporations, 2,569 candidates were in the fray.
