Polling underway for civic bodies in Gujarat’s Vadodara

Polling for 88 seats in Gujarat’s Vadodara district is currently underway, along with 168 taluka panchayat seats and 34 zila panchayat seats on Sunday (February 28).

Polling for 88 seats in Gujarat’s Vadodara district is currently underway, along with 168 taluka panchayat seats and 34 zila panchayat seats on Sunday (February 28). Voting officially started at 7 am and will go on till 6 pm today.

This comes just days after the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) triumphant in the local body polls in six districts by almost wiping out the Congress.

Meanwhile, other districts in the state — which including 231 taluka panchayats, 31 district panchayats and 81 municipalities — are also going to polls on Sunday.

As per District Collector Shalini Agarwal, numerious returning officers and assistant officers have been positioned for the same.

“9,61,830 voters have registered for the Zila and taluka panchayat polls and 94,250 have registered for Nagar Palika polls. 1,308 presiding officers and 2,708 polling officers have been deployed,” Agarwal said on Saturday.

The deployed officials will have the responsibility that all government-prescribed COVID-19 guidelines are being being followed during the polling process amid the global coronavirus pandemic.

The District Collector also added that health kits and gloves will also be provided for the staff and voters respectively.

“In order to maintain overall law and order, police, group mobile, police magistrate mobile, local police, home guards and SRPs will be deployed,” she added.
