New Delhi: The Rashtriya Janata Dal president Lalu Prasad Yadav on Tuesday met with Loktantrik Janata Dal party Chief Sharad Yadav and both leaders held talks for over an hour. The meeting comes a day after Lalu held a discussion over tea with Samajwadi Party Chief Mulayam Singh.

These politically crucial meetings are taking place amid talks between Lok Janshankti Party (LJP) leader Chirag Paswan and RJD party workers which began a month ago. However, Lalu called his meeting with Pawar a courtesy visit as he said he had come to inquire about Pawar’s health.

The RJD leader told reporters later that the absence of socialists leaders like Sharad Yadav, Mulayam Singh Yadav and himself had resulted in neglect of people-related issues in Parliament.

“I had come to enquire about Sharad Pawar’s health, he has been unwell. Parliament is deserted without him. Three of us – I, Sharad bhai, and Mulayam Singh have fought for so many issues… My meeting with Mulayam Singh Yadav yesterday was a courtesy visit as well,” said Lalu Prasad Yadav on Tuesday.

On the issue of a possible future alliance between LJP leader Chirag Paswan and RJD amidst the ongoing spat with his uncle Pashupati Kumar Paras, Lalu said that he wishes that Paswan and his son Tejashwi Yadav may form an alliance.

“Whatever happened (rift in LJP), Chirag Paswan continues to be the leader of LJP. Yes, I want them…(to be together),” RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav said when asked about Chirag Paswan-Tejashwi Yadav alliance in Bihar.

On the Pegasus issue, Yadav maintains that the Centre should reveal the names of those who are involved and the government should probe the matter. The RJD chief was accompanied by party MPs Prem Chand Gupta and Misa Bharti.

“Yes, it (probe) should be done. Names of those involved should be published, ” said Lalu Prasad Yadav on ‘Pegasus Project’ media report.

On Saturday, Lok Janshankti Party (LJP) leader Chirag Paswan met Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) national general secretary Shyam Rajak.

Rajak’s meeting with Paswan has set the speculations of Chairag joining hands with RJD high. “It was a courtesy meeting with Chirag Paswan. I went there to meet the Paswan family including Chirag Paswan,” Rajak told ANI on Saturday.

Rajak’s meeting with Paswan a day after his meeting with RJD chief Lalu Yadav on Friday holds political significance. Asked whether Chirag is welcome in RJD or not, Rajak had said “All those who want to take forward the ideology of Lohia and Ambedkar are welcome, be it Chirag Paswan or anyone else.”

According to ANI sources, Paswan spoke to RJD national president over the phone for more than 15 minutes on Saturday evening. After talking to Lalu Yadav, Chirag Paswan also spoke to Tejashwi Yadav. Their conversation was regarding the possible future political alliances in Bihar.

The speculations about Chirag joining hands with Tejashwi has been rife, while the fight between him and his uncle Pashupati Kumar Paras has intensified over the claim of Ram Vilas Paswan’s political legacy.

The newly-appointed Union Minister and LJP leader Pashupati Kumar Paras on Friday claimed that he is the real heir apparent of his elder brother Ram Vilas Paswan’s political legacy.

Last month, Pashupati Kumar Paras, the younger brother of LJP founder Ram Vilas Paswan along with five other MPs, met Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla and handed over a letter to him seeking removal of Chirag Paswan as party chief and as the Lok Sabha Parliamentary party leader. The rebel faction of the LJP elected unopposed Paras as the new party president while Paras ascended to become Minister of Food Processing Industries in the latest Cabinet reshuffle.
