Copa America Final: Di Maria’s Audacious Finish Helps Argentina Beat Brazil 1-0

New Delhi: Argentina defeated Brazil 1-0 in Sunday’s much-awaited Copa America 2021 final as The Albiceleste secured their 15th Copa América title thanks to an audacious chipped goal from Angel Di Maria on the night. With this title win, Lionel Messi’s Argentina have moved level with Uruguay for the most ever.

New Delhi: Argentina defeated Brazil 1-0 in Sunday’s much-awaited Copa America 2021 final as The Albiceleste secured their 15th Copa América title thanks to an audacious chipped goal from Angel Di Maria on the night. With this title win, Lionel Messi’s Argentina have moved level with Uruguay for the most ever.

Midway through the first half, Di Maria grabbed the winner when his cheeky lob left the Brazilian goalkeeper Ederson stranded after full-back Renan Lodi failed to cut out a deadly through ball.

This Copa America 2021 final victory also means that Messi’s long-awaited international title drought has finally come to an end with Argentina as his teammates lifted him up by the touchline as a chorus of boos cascade down from the iconic Maracanã stadium.

This was also the third goal that Brazil had conceded in the entire tournament this year. After frustrating opening 45 minutes, Neymar decided to take things into his own hands in the second half and tried hard with dribbles and passes, but the Selecao failed to find a way past Emiliano Martinez in the Argentina goal.

Tite’s side had won all its previous five matches in the Copa America 2021 and had also scored goals in all of them.

Even though Messi’s performance in the final was not at all eye-catching when compared to the previous matches of the tournament, where he scored four goals and registered five assists to his name.

The iconic no.10 had also missed a clear opportunity in the 88th minute, where he tried to dribble past Ederson, but the Brazilian shot stopper managed to end his pursuit quirky.
