The International Cricket Council (ICC) on Monday (March 8) shared a clip of the 2020 Women’s T20 World Cup on the occasion of International Women’s Day.
In a tweet, it said “What a story. What a @T20WorldCup. Relive an incredible International Women’s Day at the MCG. #IWD2021.”

The final of the tournament was held on March 8, 2020, on International Women’s Day. It was won by the hosts Australia who defeated India by 85 runs at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG). The final was attended by 86,714 fans which brokes several records such as:
- the highest attendance for a women’s sporting fixture ever held in Australia
- the highest attendance for a women’s cricket match anywhere in the world
- the second-highest attendance recorded for any women’s sporting event anywhere in the world
- the highest attendance for a T20 International cricket match, women’s or men’s, anywhere in the world
Furthermore, the event was watched more than 1.1 billion times digitally which made it the most-watched ICC women’s event ever and the second most successful ICC event after the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2019.
