New Delhi: Delhi Capitals (DC) head coach Ricky Ponting on Wednesday said that Rishabh Pant deserves to captain the franchise in the upcoming 14th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) on the basis of his recent performances. Ponting’s remarks came after Pant was officially appointed as Delhi Capitals skipper on Tuesday.

The decision comes after DC captain Shreyas Iyer was ruled out of IPL 2021 due to a shoulder injury, which he had picked up during the India vs England 1st ODI in Pune.

“Unfortunate that Shreyas will miss the tournament, but looking forward to seeing @RishabhPant17 grab his opportunity,” tweeted Ponting.

“It’s well deserved for his recent performances and he’s coming in with a lot of confidence. I’m convinced captaincy will make him an even better player,” he added.

HERE IS HIS POST:

DC has appointed Rishabh as the captain of the side for the upcoming much-awaited season of the IPL.
