New Delhi: While the on-filed debate is still ongoing regarding who is the bigger “G.O.A.T”, Argentine forward Lionel Messi has overtaken Portugal striker Cristiano Ronaldo off the filed and now has the most liked sports picture on Instagram, surpassing a like record of 20 million.

Messi had shared a photograph of himself with the Copa America title after Argentina successfully outclassed arch-rivals Brazil in the finals earlier this month.

As a result of securing the Copa America 2021 title, Messi also earned his first international title with the national side.

The 34-year-old’s post has shattered all previous record of 19.8 million likes, a record which was held by Ronaldo after he paid tribute to Diego Maradona following his death, reported ESPN.

Messi had shared the photo with Copa America title on Instagram and he captioned the post as: “What a beautiful madness! This is unbelievable! Thank you, God! We are the champions!”

The iconic no.10 managed to score 38 goals in 47 matches for Barcelona last season, 30 of them coming in LaLiga. The forward also netted four goals and five assists for Argentina in the Copa America and as a result, he was named the Player of the Tournament.

Furthermore, La pulga is also set to pen a new five-year deal with Barcelona in the coming days as well. Along with signing a new deal, Messi is also set to take a 50 per cent wage cut, reported Goal.com.

The maverick striker has agreed to take a cut on his yearly earnings in order to re-sign for Barcelona, and the club will make a formal announcement in the coming weeks.
