New Delhi: Former Team India batsman Suresh Raina has lauded Sam Curran for his fighting 95-run knock against India in the third ODI of the three-match series on Sunday at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune.
Raina and Curran are also Chennai Super Kings (CSK) teammates in upcoming 14th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Speaking about Curran’s inspirational hitting against the Indian bowlers, Suresh said that the Englishman was his side’s ‘lone warrior’ and he can’t wait to meet him in the CSK nets.
Taking to Twitter, Raina wrote: “@CurranSM batted brilliantly till the end, was the lone warrior for @ECB_cricket out there. See you soon at the @ChennaiIPL den.”

In chase of a target score of 330, the England allrounder’s unbeaten knock of 95 runs went in vain as a fighting display from the Team India players helped the hosts defeat England by seven runs in the third ODI. Shardul Thakur returned with match figures of 4-67 in his fours overs, which also includes the vital wickets of Dawid Malan (50), skipper Jos Buttler (15) and Liam Livingstone (36).
Earlier, India’s batting unit had displayed a change of approach in the third ODI and this ensured that despite losing wickets at regular intervals, the hosts posted a total of 329.
Pant (78), Pandya (64), and Shikhar Dhawan (67) registered fifty-plus scores as India set a 330-run target for the visitors. The Virat Kohli-led side then restricted England to 322/9 to win the match and the series.
This victory meant after winning the Test and T20I series against England, the hosts completed a clean sweep in the ODIs as well.
Meanwhile, CSK are set to take on last year’s finalists Delhi Capitals (DC) in their opening match of IPL 2021 in Mumbai on April 10.
The much-awaited 14th edition of IPL will kick off with a royal clash between defending champions Mumbai Indians (MI) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) at Chepauk in Chennai on April 9.
