Tokyo Olympics 2021: PM Narendra Modi Reacts to India vs Belgium Men’s Hockey Semi-Final

New Delhi: Just like the rest of the country, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has also tuned in to watch the ongoing men's hockey semi-final bout between India and Belgium in the ongoing Tokyo Olympics on Tuesday.

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday expressed his thoughts after India’s 5-2 loss to Belgium in the men’s hockey semi-final clash in the ongoing Tokyo Olympics.

Taking to Twitter, PM Modi said that the Indian team did their best and that is what counts.

“Wins and losses are a part of life. Our Men’s Hockey Team at #Tokyo2020 gave their best and that is what counts. Wishing the Team the very best for the next match and their future endeavours. India is proud of our players,” PM Modi’s tweet reads.

Just like the rest of the country, Narendra Modi had also tuned in to watch the ongoing men’s hockey semi-final bout between India and Belgium earlier in the day.

As he turned in to the ongoing semi-final clash, PM Modi took to Twitter and said that he is already “proud” of what the Indian squad has managed to achieve in the ongoing Olympics so far.

“I’m watching India vs Belgium Hockey Men’s Semi-Final at #Tokyo2020. Proud of our team and their skills. Wishing them the very best,” tweeted PM Modi on Tuesday morning.

In the game, Loick Luypaert gave Belgium an early lead to Belgium as he registered a goal in the opening minutes of the first quarter and as a result, the Men in Blue was put on the back foot straight away.

However, India immediately struck back in the second half as Mandeep Singh and Harmanpreet Singh scored goals in quick succession, and as a result, India secured a 2-1 lead in the first quarter.

In the second quarter, Belgium once again found their way into the game and got the equaliser as Alexander Hendrickx successfully converted a penalty corner, and brought the scoreline level to 2-2.

However, in the fourth quarter the class of Belgium came through as Hendrickx struck twice and John-John Dohmen also found the back of the net to help Belgium seal a spot in the final.
