New Delhi: With Paris Saint Germain set to take on Belgian side Club Brugge in the UEFA Champions League on Thursday, football fans will be able to see the triumvirate of Lionel Messi, Kylian Mbappe, and Neymar play together for the first time.
PSG’s coach Mauricio Pochettino main aim is to win the Champions League for which he has been provided with a formidable team that has only grown in strength over the summer by the arrival of goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma, right-back Achraf Hakimi, left-back Nuno Mendes, centre-back Sergio Ramos, defensive midfielder Danilo Pereira, central midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum and Messi.
French daily L’Equipe said that all three are expected to be in Pochhetino’s’ side which will travel to Belgium.
Messi made his debut for the French side in Ligue 1 against Reins but he replaced Neymar which means the fans have still not seen the trio on the pitch at the same time.
It also remains to be seen what formation will Pocchetino use for the game.
His most-used formation has been the 4-2-3-1 in which Messi also played just behind Mbappe.
However, he could for the 4-3-3 formation which will allow him to use three midfielders who could do the defensive duties in place of the attacking three.
The coach could also use the 3-5-2 formation with Mendes and Hakimi playing at the wingback position but that would mean that Messi, Neymar and Mabpe will be expected to do defensive duties as well.
In the last two seasons of the Champions League, PSG have come close to winning the title but were denied in the final by Bayern Munich in 2020 and were knocked out in the semi-finals stage by Manchester City this year.
