New Delhi: Jose Mourinho is widely renowned for his both on and off-the-field antics for years now, however, the AS Roma manager’s epic celebration after Stephan El Shaarawy’s later winner against Sassuolo in the Serie A on Sunday (local time) is winning hearts.
After a steady start to the match, the Stadio Olimpico erupted at the 37th minute when Bryan Cristante found the back of the net after some brilliant team play from Roma.
Pellegrini had played an absolutely perfect ball right in behind Sassuolo’s high line of defence, with Cristante timing his run to perfection to get on the end of it and clinically put it away to give the hosts a 1-0 going into halftime.
However, the second half saw Sassuolo come out with some intensity, and their efforts paid off in the 57th minute when Filip Duricic levelled the score for the visitors after some very poor defending from Roma that left Berardi an opening to slot in the pass for the equalizer.
With the match in a deadlock, the game looked nailed on to end in a draw. However, Shaarawy had other plans as the Italian winger showed tremendous composure and accuracy inside the penalty box when the ball fell to him in the 92nd minute.
With moments to spare, Shaarawy calmly curled the ball around the Sassuolo shot-stopper in the dying embers of the match and found the back of the net to put Roma 2-1 up on the night.
This brought out passionate celebrations from the AS Roma fans, players, and especially the ‘Special One’. Mourinho and his coaching staff were seen running in jubilation to celebrating the late winner from Shaarawy on the pitch.
What made the moment even special is that this was Mourinho’s 1000th match of his managerial career.
AS Roma’s next league match will be against Verona on September 19.
