London: Canada’s Denis Shapavalov on Friday (local time) defeated Britain’s Andy Murray and knocked him out of the ongoing Wimbledon 2021. Meanwhile, Serbian tennis star Novak Djokovic secured his spot in the next round of the tournament with an impressive won.
Shapavalov outplayed Murray 6-4, 6-2, 6-2 at the Centre Court on Friday (local time) in the third round of the ongoing Grand Slam tournament.
Right from the get go, the Canadian brought his attacking strategy to the court and pushed Murray off his game. In the first set, Murray was able to secure four games, but in the end of it, Shapavalov took the first set 6-4.
The next two sets saw the Canadian outclass Marray as he went on to win the set 2-6 in both sets, leaving the British tennis star shellshocked. Murray was unable to show any fight and Shapavalov was able to take full advantage of it.
The 34-year-old, who has won two Wimbledon titles in the past, tried his best, but in the end, he bowed out of the tournament.
Meanwhile, world number one Novak Djokovic progressed to the fourth round of the ongoing Wimbledon with an impressive straight-set win over his American opponent Denis Kudla.
The Serbian was in top form on the day and secured the match 6-4, 6-3 and 7-6 in the end.
Iconic Swiss star Roger Federer will be in action later today in his third-round match against Britain’s Cameron Norrie.
