Indian captain Ajinkya Rahane on Tuesday (March 2) said that winning the World Test Championship (WTC) would be equivalent to a World Cup win. The Indian test vice-captain comments came after being asked about pacer Ishant Sharma’s statement over the same issue.
“Absolutely, I think he was spot on when he said that winning the WTC final is equal to a World Cup win and we are all focusing on that but having said that the focus right now is to play the fourth Test match and then think about it but yes Ishant was completely right,” said Rahane.
The captain also said that whenever India has played Tests in other countries the pitch was tailor-made for the hosts’ preferences but India never complained so he is not affected by any criticism that is being vented against the pitch after the third Test that finished in two days.
On Dale’s Steyn comments over money taking precedence over cricket in the IPL, Rahane also said that the Indian Premier League had provided a platform to many players both Indian and overseas and he could not comment on it as he had unaware of the statement given by Steyn.
India take on England in the fourth Test at the Narendra Modi Stadium on March 4 with a spot in the WTC final on the line. A victory or draw will see India through to the finals while an England win will see Australia face New Zealand in a trans-Tasmanian clash at Lord’s in June.
