New Delhi: In the third incident of a school student dying by suicide within two weeks in Tamil Nadu, a Class 12 girl allegedly ended her life at her home in Cuddalore district on Tuesday.
According to the police, the girl was upset over being scolded by her mother. While the family attempted to perform her last rites, the police have sent the body for autopsy. The police have registered a case of suspicious death
Reacting to the incident, Chief Minister MK Stalin said, “Recent incidents (student suicides) in state are painful. Educational institutes must perceive education as service and not as business. Students should be taught to deal with any situation. They shouldn’t have suicidal thoughts and must think about achieving more.”
On July 25, a 17-year old Class 12 student was found dead on the premises of her school hostel in Tiruvallur district. The police transferred the case to CB-CID while relatives and villagers of the deceased girl staged protest seeking justice.
Earlier this month, a Class 12 student in Tamil Nadu’s Kallakurichi died by suicide after alleged torture by teachers. Following her death, violence broke out in parts of Tamil Nadu after she jumped off her hostel building on July 13. The girl reportedly alleged in her suicide note that she was tortured by a teacher.
