Chandigarh: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has tightened its noose on the gangsters of Punjab who have been linked to recent terror attacks in the state and were also directly or indirectly involved in the killing of singer Sidhu Moosewala. The raids are being conducted at around 25 places across Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan and Western Uttar Pradesh.

The NIA seized two mobile phones belonging to jailed gangster Jaggu Bhagwanpuria’s mother. Bhagwanpuria was the one who allegedly arrange shooters in the Moosewala murder.

A pen drive, a printer and some bank passbooks were also confiscated. This has been confirmed by Bhagwanpuria’s mother Harjit Kaur. She was also asked questions about how the gangster was able to wear costly clothes and shoes. NIA posed her specific questions about “T-shirts priced Rs 15,000 and slippers as costly as Rs 3,000 and that how was her son able to procure it while being in jail.”

Notably, apart from the Rocket Propelled Grenade (RPG) attack on the State Intelligence Headquarters in Mohali on May 9, a hand grenade attack at Pathankot Army camp took place on November 21, 2021. Another such attack took place at CIA Nawanshahr on November 7, 2021, followed by a blast at the Roopnagar Police post on March 9, the eve of the Punjab Assembly polls results.

Gangsters Whose Houses Were Raided

Among the locations being raided by the NIA are gangster Lawrence Bishnoi’s home in Dottranwali village in Fazilka, Jaggu Bhagwanpuria’s house in Bhagwanpur, Gurdaspur. Other locations include Tillu Tajpuriya’s house in Delhi, Amit Daggar’s house in Palwal, Kaushal Chaudhary’s house in Gurugram, Goldy Brar’s house in Sri Muktsar Sahib, former gangster Sonu Kangla’s house in Amritsar, Kala Jathedi’s house at Jathedi village in Sonepat, Lucky Padial’s residence at Khuda Lahora in Chandigarh, Sachin Thapan’s house at Dottranwali in Fazilka and Lakhbir Landa’s house at Harike in Tarn Taran.

Sources said that the phones of the family members have been seized and the data is being retrieved to ascertain if any terror-related or hawala transactions took place between the gangsters and the family members.

Also, if any money was being transacted into the accounts of the family members from abroad. Notably, Goldy Brar, Lucky Padial, and Lakhbir Landa are based abroad and funding many terror activities, and the route being used is being investigated by the NIA.

The NIA is investigating some of these gangsters who it believes are not just gangsters but also help in executing various terror acts. And to keep the two things running in tandem, finances are required, which are taken care of by peddling and supplying drugs. Some of these top gangsters who have close links to terrorists and drug suppliers are:

Lawrence Bishnoi

Bishnoi is the leader of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang. Bishnoi was a student at DAV College, Sector 10, Chandigarh. He strayed from student politics into the world of gangs. Son of a former cop and an agriculturist, Bishnoi belongs to an affluent family. There were many cases against him, but in January 2018, he threatened to kill Bollywood actor Salman Khan. The Bishnois worship the black bucks, and because Salman was allegedly involved in the killing of a black buck, Lawrence Bishnoi wanted him killed. This brought him into national headlines. On May 29, Punjabi rapper Sidhu Moosewala was killed at his behest. Since then, he is an undertrial in Punjab for Moosewala’s murder.

Goldy Brar aka Satinder Singh

Canada-based Goldy Brar’s real name is Satinder Singh. He became friends with Bishnoi in college. After Moose Wala’s killing, he openly announced through a Facebook post that he along with Sachin Bishnoi of the Lawrence Bishnoi group take the responsibility for the killing of the singer. The reason for Moosewala’s killing was that his name came up in connection with the murders of Midhukhera and Goldy’s cousin Gurlal Brar. Before this, Goldy Brar was involved in the killing of a man named Gurlal Pehalwan, a Youth Congress leader, following which he fled to Canada.

Jaggu Bhagwanpuria

Jaggu Bhagwanpuria who belongs to Gurdaspur was once a budding kabaddi player. Now he is called a supari king. Jaggu and his gang were famous for dacoity, robbery, and extortion in the Majha area of Punjab (Amritsar, Gurdaspur, and Tarn Taran). The killing of the son of a sarpanch in Dhianpur village was his initiation into the world of crime. Subsequently, he got in touch with other gangsters named Sukha Kalwan and Lawrence Bishnoi. The latest case against him is Moosewala’s killing. He arranged for many shooters to kill Moosewala.

Tillu Tajpuriya

Tillu Tajpuriya is from Delhi and like Lawrence Bishnoi strayed from student politics into the world of crime. After he had a falling out with his friend gangster friend Jitender Gogi, he joined hands with gangsters Neeraj Bawana, Naveen Bali, etc. After his friend Raju Chor’s killing, he got further entrenched in the world of gangs. Later, two more murders of his gang members Devinder Pradhan and Sumit meant that he had more to avenge and thus no looking back.

Amit Daggar

Daggar is from Palwal in Haryana. He has confessed to having committed over seven murders and more than a dozen extortions. His name first came up in the world of crime after he and Kaushal were accused of killing gangster Chailu in the broad daylight. This incident took place in 2006 at Rajiv Chowk in Delhi. His name also came up in the Moosewala murder.

Sonu Kangla

Former drug peddler and gangster Sonu Kangla is from Amritsar. He is a former friend of Jaggu Bhagwanpuria. Kangla has in the past said that many politicians were involved in drug trafficking in Punjab. He has confessed to drug peddling and trafficking. After having spent eight years in jail in various cases of drugs, extortion, and murder, he has withdrawn from the world of crime.

Kala Jathedi

Kala Jathedi was a small-time cable TV network operator. In 2004, a case of burglary was registered against him. Later, more than a dozen cases of extortion and murder were registered against him. Kala Jathedi was once close to two-time Olympic medallist wrestler Sushil Kumar. Of late, Sushil has said that he fears for his life from Jathedi.

Kaushal Chaudhary

Kaushal Chaudhary is involved in many cases of murder, ransom, and extortion. His initiation into the world of crime happened after his brother was killed by another gangster named Chailu. As part of the revenge, Chailu was later killed by Amit Daggar and Kaushal Chaudhary at Rajiv Chowk in Delhi. Daggar and Kaushal subsequently formed a gang. In 2017, he was successful in giving police a slip and flew to Dubai via Thailand. However, he was soon extradited and brought to India. At present, he is in Gurdaspur jail.

Lucky Padial

Lucky Padialt aka Gaurav Padial too was in student politics in Chandigarh. He heads the Devinder Bambiha gang from Armenia. He had a falling out with Vicky Midhukhera and Lawrence Bishnoi as a student leader and ever since they were at loggerheads. His name came up in the killing of Midhukhera in 2021.

Sachin Thapan

Sachin Thapan is a nephew of Lawrence Bishnoi. Notably, days after the Moosewala murder, he had called up a news channel, and, in order to mislead, the police had said that he had killed Moosewala with his own hands. Thapan, however, had already left for Azerbaijan when he made this announcement. But in August this year, he was arrested in Azerbaijan.

Lakhbir Landa

Lakhbir Landa is one of the masterminds of the Rocket Propelled Grenade RPG attack at State Intelligence Headquarters, Mohali. Currently based in Canada, he is a close aide of Khalistani operative Harjinder Singh Rinda.
