Veteran wicketkeeper-batter Dinesh Karthik earned his dream call-up to the Indian team for the upcoming T20I series against South Africa. While he’s earning praises for being an incredible finisher for Royal Challengers Bangalore in IPL 2022, his cricket life has been a roller coaster ride.

Dinesh Karthik was among the plethora of wicketkeepers in the Ganguly era of Indian cricket, before MS Dhoni arrived. He caught the public eye when he debuted for India in ODI as a 19-year-old in late 2004. The highest point in his career came in 2007, when he replaced Virendra Sehwag in the Test tour of England, becoming India’s highest run getter in the series.

In 2007, Dinesh Karthik married his childhood friend Nikita Vanjara. After that year, his batting skills deteriorated. While MS Dhoni was proving his batting and wicket keeping skills, Dinesh Karthik was out of the playing XI.

Then came a personal fallout in 2012, when his wife Nikita fell in love with cricketer Murali Vijay, which led Karthik to divorce her.

He missed out on playing at the highest level during his peak during the Dhoni era. Even though he missed Tests, he was a bankable player for ODIs. In 2015, Dinesh found his true love in Indian squash player Dipika Pallikal and they got married. The couple now have adorable twin boys.

Soon, Dinesh’s game began to improve. He last played for India in the 2019 World Cup. However, he has remained an impressive finisher in IPL for his former team Kolkata Knight Riders, and now for the RCB.
