Commonwealth Games 2022: 14-Year-Old Squash Player Anahat Singh Makes Winning Debut

The class ninth student has won 50 titles till now including the US Junior Open, the British, German and Dutch Junior Opens and Asian Championship.

Squash player Anahat Singh won the women’s singles 11-5 11-2 11-0  over Jada Ross St Vincent and the Grenadines . The 14-year old will take on Emily Whitlock on Saturday.

Anahat is the youngest member of contingent at the Commonwealth Games 2022. She hails from Delhi. The class ninth student has won 50 titles till now including the US Junior Open, the British, German and Dutch Junior Opens and Asian Championship. Anahat was selected for the Indian team after her impressive wins at the under-15 level including Asian Junior Squash and German Open this year.

Having won 66 medals in CWG 2018 in Gold Coast, India is hoping to better its performance in this edition of the games. While India would be missing its shooting contingent and Olympic medallist Neeraj Chopra due to injury in Birmingham, the presence of some star athletes and Olympic medal winners gives them a good chance to bring more medals.

The top gold medal contenders for India at the Birmingham Commonwealth Games 2022 are PV Sindhu (Badminton), Nikhat Zareen (Boxing), Mirabai Chanu (Weightlifting), Ravi Kumar Dahiya (Wrestling), and Lovlina Borgohain (Boxing).
