Commonwealth Games 2022: Weightlifter Sanket Sargar Wins Silver Medal In Men’s 55Kg In Birmingham

Sanket Mahadev Sargar finished with a total lift of 248 kg. Sargar also injured himself during one of his final attempts.

Weightlifter Sanket Sargar has opened India’s account as he finished second in the men’s 55 kg weightlifting final winning the silver medal in Commonwealth Games 2022.

The 21-year old missed out on gold by 1 kg to Malaysia’s Bib Aniq who finished with a record combined weight of of 249 kg.

Sargar clearly led in the snatch event with a lift of 113 kg. He then produced a great performance in the clean and jerk where he lifted 135 kg in his first attempt but failed at both his attempts to lift 139 kg.

Hailing from Sangli, Maharashtra, the 22-year-old is reigning national-level champion in 55 kg category . Tokyo Olympics silver medallist Mirabai Chanu  will defend her title in the women’s 49 kg category weightlifting in the upcoming event on July 30.
