The spread of Covid-19 might have slowed down but alarming trends are consistently being noticed. The Delta variant of Covid-19 which was first noticed in India is reported to be very infectious in nature.
Of all the symptoms caused by the Delta variant of the SARS-CoV-2 virus, loss of hearing is not the one that is often discussed much.
In Karnataka, numerous such cases are slowly being reported. This is also despite the fact that numerous studies show the impact of coronavirus on the audio-vestibular system.
As per the latest reports, the Manipal hospital alone has over 5 to 6 cases so far. Meanwhile, hearing impairment, severe gastric upsets, and blood clots leading to gangrene, symptoms not typically observed in COVID-19 patients, have been linked by doctors in India to the so-called Delta variant.
Dr. Arun Raykar, the ENT Consultant of Manipal Hospital has explained why this is happening.
“It could be due to the viral-mediated inflammation or the cellular stress factors to name a few”, says Dr. Raykar.
Reports of post-vaccination hearing loss are also raising questions.
Doctors point out the treatment of the problem and state that the early detection of the problem can help in curing the same.
