Coronavirus India Update: DRDO’s 2-DG Drug Effective Against All Covid-19 Variants, Study Claims

India reported 67,208 Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours. 1,03,570 patients have recovered during the last 24 hours. The country reported 2,330 deaths in the last 24 hours, taking the death toll to over 3 Lakh. Daily recoveries continue to outnumber the daily new cases for the 35th consecutive day.

India’s 2-deoxy-D-glucose (2-DG) drug, developed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation, has been found to be effective against all variants of Covid-19, a new study has revealed.

Over 25.9 Crore vaccine doses have been administered so far under a nationwide vaccination drive in India.

Under ‘Quad Vaccine Cooperation’, India is looking to increase the production of Covid-19 vaccines by around 1 billion doses by the end of next year.

The Russian vaccine Sputnik V will now be administered in 9 cities. These cities are Bengaluru, Mumbai, Kolkata, Delhi, Chennai, Visakhapatnam, Baddi, Kolhapur and Miryalaguda.

The Serum Institute of India is preparing to produce Novavax’s COVID-19 vaccine in the country. The vaccine has an efficacy of 90.4%.
