Covid-19 India Update: 41,831 New Cases, Centre Urges 10 States To Impose Stricter Curbs | 1 August

India reported 41,831 new Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours, marginally higher than yesterday.

India’s fresh coronavirus infections exceeded daily recoveries for the fifth straight day amid concerns over an impending third wave of the Covid-19 pandemic. With this the recovery rate has increased to 97.36%. Daily positivity rate reaches at 2.34%, remaining below 5%.

India’s Active Caseload is currently at 4,10,952. Active cases now constitute 1.30% of total cases.

Southern states continue to remain a worry as India fights against the Covid-19 pandemic. The three most affected states recording maximum Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours are Kerala, Andhra Pradesh and Maharashtra.

Kerala reported more than 20k new Covid-19 cases for the fifth day with 20,624, 80 deaths and 16,865 recoveries in the last 24 hours. Andhra Pradesh reported 2,058 new Covid-19 cases, 23 deaths and 2,053 recoveries in the last 24 hours. Maharashtra reported 6,959 new Covid-19 cases, 225 deaths and 7,467 recoveries in the last 24 hours.

Meanwhile, Delhi recorded 58 new Covid-19 cases 56 recoveries and 1 death in last 24 hours. According to an analysis of ICMR’s fourth sero-survey, for every single Covid-19 case reported in India, there were nearly 30 cases that remained undetected or were missed. The Centre has told 10 states witnessing an upsurge in infections and positivity to consider strict restrictions and ramp up testing to prevent or curtail people’s movement and crowding.

However, according to an analysis by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), districts that were severely impacted by the second Covid-19 wave, may not see an equally intense third wave. In a bid to ramp up the vaccination process, India’s cumulative Covid-19 vaccination coverage crosses 47.02 Crore. On 31st July, Karnataka’s Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai said that the Centre has assured to supply about 1 crore vaccines for the state in August.

First detected in India, the Delta variant has now reached 132 countries and territories. WHO director-general has said that nearly four million new infections have been reported in the past week and the organisation expected the world to surpass 200 million total known cases in the next two weeks.
