Covid-19 India Update: Dip In Coronavirus Testing Rates in Punjab, J&K, West Bengal, Worries Centre

India has administered the cumulative figure of 119.38 Crore vaccine doses. More than 90 lakh vaccine doses have been administered in the last 24 hours.

India reported 9,119 new Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours, marginally lower than yesterday. 10,264 patients recovered during the last 24 hours. With this the recovery rate currently stands at 98.33%. The daily positivity rate reaches at 0.79%, less than 2% for the last 52 days. India’s Active Caseload currently stands at 1,09,940. Active cases now constitute less than 1% of total cases, currently at 0.32%.

Rajasthan CM Ashok Gehlot has written to PM Narendra Modi to increase compensation for families of those who died due to Covid-19 from Rs 50,000 to Rs 4 lakh.

Relatively, the three most affected states recording maximum Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours are Kerala, Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu. Kerala reported 4,280 new Covid-19 cases, 35 deaths and 5,379 recoveries in the last 24 hours. Maharashtra reported 766 new Covid-19 cases, and 19 deaths in the last 24 hours. Tamil Nadu reported 744 new Covid-19 cases, 782 discharges and 14 deaths in the last 24 hours.

Meanwhile, Delhi recorded 35 new Covid-19 cases, 0 death and 20 recoveries in last 24 hours.

As Covid-19 cases surge in Europe, Germany has crossed 100,000 Covid-19 death toll. The Centre has raised concern over decline in weekly Covid-19 testing rates and directed 11 states and two Union Territories to increase the number of tests to avoid missing any infections.

A day after the report of Covaxin being 50% effective against the symptomatic Covid-19 cases surfaced on media, Bharat Biotech said that Covaxin meets WHO efficacy criteria for Covid-19 vaccines for dreaded Delta variant. It added that these results compare well with 65.2% efficacy against Delta variant obtained during controlled phase 3 clinical trials of Covaxin conducted among general population.
