India reported 9,765 new Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours, 9% higher than yesterday. 8,548 patients recovered during the last 24 hours. With this the recovery rate currently stands at 98.35%. The daily positivity rate reaches at 0.89%, less than 2% for the last 59 days.
India’s Active Caseload currently stands at 99,763. Active cases now constitute less than 1% of total cases, currently at 0.29%, lowest since March 2020. Relatively, the three most affected states recording maximum Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours are Kerala, Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu. Kerala reported 5,405 new Covid-19 cases and 403 deaths in the last 24 hours. Maharashtra reported 767 new Covid-19 cases, 903 recoveries and 28 deaths in the last 24 hours. Tamil Nadu reported 718 new Covid-19 cases, 751 discharges and 11 deaths in the last 24 hours.
According to the Maharashtra government recent guidelines, International passengers from at-risk countries may be deplaned on priority & separate counters will be arranged by MIAL & Airport Authority for their checking. They will also have to undergo mandatory 7-day institutional quarantine along with an RT-PCR test which is to be carried out on second, fourth and seventh day.
Meanwhile, Delhi recorded 39 new Covid-19 cases, 0 death and 40 recoveries in last 24 hours.
Six people who flew into Delhi from “at-risk” countries, including the UK and the Netherlands, on Wednesday have been admitted to the Lok Nayak Hospital after four of them tested positive for COVID-19. Officials have said that their samples have been sent to the National Centre for Disease Control for genome sequencing to ascertain if they have the new variant.
In a bid to ramp up the vaccination process, India’s has administered the cumulative figure of 124.96 Crore vaccine doses. The demand for a booster shot, particularly for healthcare and frontline workers, has gained momentum amid mounting fear over the new Covid variant Omicron.
Serum Institute of India has sought approval from India’s drug regulator for Covishield as a booster dose citing adequate stock of the vaccine in the country and a demand for a booster shot due to the emergence of new coronavirus variants. WHO on Wednesday said that the new Omicron coronavirus variant has been confirmed in 23 countries and their number is expected to rise in the coming days.
Meanwhile, the white house has announced that a person in California who had been vaccinated against Covid-19 became the first in the United States to have an identified case of the Omicron variant.
