India reported 1,59,632 fresh Covid-19 cases, 12% higher than the previous day figure. 40,863 patients recovered during the last 24 hours. The recovery rate reaches at 96.98%. The daily positivity rate reaches at 10.21%
India’s active caseload currently stands 5,90,611, active cases stand at 1.66%.
Relatively six states namely Odisha (4,714), Jharkhand (5,081), Kerala (5,944), Uttar Pradesh (6,411), Karnataka (8,906) and Tamil Nadu (10,978) reported maximum Covid-19 fresh cases in the last 24 hours.
Meanwhile states in East India have also started reporting a surge with Assam recording 1,254 fresh Covid-19 cases and Mizoram reporting 903 new cases.
According to the data given by Health Ministry, A total of 3,623 Omicron cases were reported in 27 States and Union Territories of India so far. The number of persons recovered is 1,409. The three states that recorded nearly 20,000 fresh Covid-19 in the last 24 hours are Maharashtra, West Bengal and Delhi.
Maharashtra reported 41,434 new cases, 13 deaths and, 9,671 discharges in the last 24 hours. Mumbai reported 20,318 new cases of Covid-19, 5 deaths in the last 24 hours. Maharashtra became the first state to report more than a thousand Omicron cases, recording a total of 1,009 cases of the new variant. In view of the rising Covid-19 cases in India, the Maharashtra government has imposed night curfew from 11pm to 5 am from January 10.
West Bengal reported 18,802 new cases, 8,112 recoveries and, 19 deaths in the last 24 hours. West Bengal became the second state after Maharashtra with highest active cases recording 51,000 cases which is 10.88% of the cases in India. Meanwhile Maharashtra’s caseload stands at 1, 45,198.
Delhi reported 20,181 fresh cases, 7 deaths and 11,869 recoveries in the last 24 hours. In a bid to ramp up the vaccination process, India has administered the cumulative figure of 151.58 crore vaccine doses.
Drugmaker firm Bharat Biotech has said that its Covaxin booster dose trials have shown promising results of long-term safety with no serious adverse events. It further explained that when administered, 90% of the recipients had a detectable neutralizing antibody response against the wild-type strain.
PM Narendra Modi on Saturday lauded youngsters as over two crore adolescents
(between 15 and 17 years of age) were covered under the Covid-19 vaccination programme in just five days. Over 2.28 crore adolescents, accounting for 30% of youngsters in 15-17 years age-group, received first dose of Covaxin till date.
PM Modi will also hold a meeting of top officials at 4:30 pm to review the Covid-19 situation in the country amid the worrying surge in daily new cases.
