Covid-19 India Vaccine Update | 7 July: 36 Lakh+ Vaccinated In 24 Hours; Sanofi To Seek Nod For Phase 3 Trial

India has recorded more than 36 Lakh Covid-19 Vaccine jabs in the last 24 hours. With this India’s cumulative Covid-19 vaccination coverage crosses 36 Crore. According to the CoWin portal, a total of 29 crore people have been given the first dose of the vaccine and a total of 6.6 crore people have received their second dose.

French pharma giant Sanofi plans to conduct a part of the 35,000-participant global phase 3 trial in India for its Covid-19 vaccine. The company is in the process of getting approval from the Drugs Controller General of India to conduct the phase 3 trial. If the firm gets approval, it will be the first global trial for a foreign Covid-19 vaccine in the country.

On 6th July, Telangana governor Dr. Tamilisai Soundararajan advised the State government to draw an action plan for ensuring 100% vaccination of tribals living in scheduled and other remote areas in a time-bound manner. India has planned to provide 12 crore doses of Covid-19 vaccines in July at government as well as private hospitals across 37 states and Union Territories.

According to the union government, states and union territories have been informed adequately in advance about vaccine doses that will be made available to them in July. They have also been advised to inform if more doses of vaccine are required. A study by the Indian Council of Medical Research has revealed that Covid-19 vaccine is effective in preventing deaths in frontline workers.

The study conducted among over 1 lakh Tamil Nadu policemen, who have been administered Covid-19 jabs, showed significant results. ICMR tweeted about the study saying that the vaccine showed 82% effectiveness on state police personnel who had received single dose and 95% on those who were administered both doses.

Indian drug manufacturer Morepen Laboratories has begun production of the Russian Sputnik V coronavirus vaccine. The first test batch made by the Indian manufacturer in the state of Himachal Pradesh will be shipped to Gamaleya, the Moscow institute which developed the vaccine, for quality controls.
