Covid-19 News Update: India Records 42,640 Cases, MP First State To Vaccinate 15 Lakh

India recorded 42,640 new Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours. This is the lowest count of daily cases in 91 days. Out of these, active cases further declined to 6.62 lakh, while over 2.88 crore people have been vaccinated so far. With 1,167 new fatalities, the country recorded the lowest daily deaths since April 16.

Hyderabad-based biotechnology company Bharat Biotech submitted phase-III clinical trial data of its Covid-19 vaccine, Covaxin, to the Drugs Controller General of India (DCGI), according to a government source.

Free vaccination will resume for all above 18 years in Maharashtra from Tuesday, weeks after it was put on hold.

Amarnath Shrine Board had opened online registrations on April 1 for the annual Amarnath Yatra only to suspend the process on April 22 as the second wave of Covid wreaked havoc. The pilgrimage usually runs for 56 days.

For the 2nd consecutive year due to Covid-19, Amarnath Yatra has been called off.

Manoj Sinha, Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir tweeted, “Devotees can still be part of the rituals associated with the pilgrimage to the cave shrine through online darshan.”

India logged a record 85 lakh Covid-19 vaccinations on June 21. Madhya Pradesh became the first state in the country to CONDUCT more than 15 lakh vaccinations for the first day of the Mega Vaccination Drive.

US President Joe Biden announced an allocation plan for 55 million doses, as part of the 80 million doses he had pledged to allocate by June end.

Approx 16 million doses are to be allocated to Asian countries-India, Nepal, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan & others.
