Covid-19 update: India Nears 100 Crore Vaccination Landmark

India’s active caseload currently stands at 1,78,098, the lowest in 229 days. Active cases now constitute less than 1% of total cases, currently at 0.52%.

For the fourth day running, daily Covid-19 cases in India remained below 15,000 mark with no indications yet of a spike in infections in the wake of last week’s festivities. The country reported 14,623 new Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours, 12% higher than yesterday.

19,446 patients recovered during the last 24 hours. With this the recovery rate has increased to 98.15%. The daily positivity rate reaches at 1.10%, less than 3% for the last 51 days. India’s active caseload currently stands at 1, 78,098, the lowest in 229 days. Active cases now constitute less than 1% of total cases, currently at 0.52%.

India inches towards the 100-crore landmark vaccination coverage as it surpasses the cumulative figure of 99 Crore. Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya shared the news on his twitter account.

States like Assam reported 353 new cases, 229 recoveries and Zero deaths in the last 24 hours. This is reportedly the first time when the state reported no deaths since the second wave struck.

Relatively, the two most affected states recording maximum Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours are Kerala and Maharashtra. Kerala reported 7,643 new Covid-19 cases, 10,488 recoveries and 77 deaths in the last 24 hours. Maharashtra reported 1,638 new Covid-19 cases, 49 deaths and 2,791 recoveries in the last 24 hours.

Although Mumbai, the capital city of Maharashtra has had only one day of zero Covid-19 deaths since March 2020, Dharavi, which is counted among the world’s densest slums apparently hasn’t reported a single Covid-19 death for 79 consecutive days.

According to experts, the chances of a third Covid-19 wave appear remote under the present circumstances with only delta and its derivatives as the main SARS CoV-2 variants in circulation and the weekly caseload dropping steadily.
