Gurugram: A special Covid-19 vaccination camp for transgenders and sex workers was set up in Gurugram on May 30. This was a free-of-cost vaccination camp that was set up by Gurugram’s Health Department.
Dr. Virendra Yadav, CMO Gurugram, told India Ahead’s reporter, “We have tried to give them the first dose. It is the first initiative in Haryana. Members of the transgender community said that it is most probably the country’s first-ever initiative.”
“The government is doing excellent work for our community. I thank the government. If it continues like this, it will be very kind to us,” said Deepika, a member of the transgender community.
“We are seen differently than society. We want to thank the government for viewing us as a part of the society,” said Suman Sakhi at the vaccination camp.
Apart from the vaccination drive in Gurugram, people of the LGBTQ community got their first dose of the vaccine in Kolkata as well and they cheered by showing the victory sign.
