Delhi-Based Visual Artist Spreads Awareness on Plastic Menace, Creates Art Through Plastic Waste

Singh who has won the METIS Initiative on Plastics and Indo-Pacific Ocean 2021 has installed a 15-feet Olive Ridley sea turtle artwork at Puri beach to make people aware of the ill-effects a plastic can have on the environment, especially the sea and aquatic life.

Plastic, this material has taken over our lives in no time, attaining a dangerous level day after day. We use it while we want to drink or eat something or it may act as a carry bag for most of the households.

Plastic pollution has become one of the most pressing environmental issues, as rapidly increasing production of disposable plastic products overwhelms the world’s ability to deal with them.

Its ubiquitous nature has prompted efforts by a Delhi-Based visual artist to share his creativity and inspire many on how to convert plastic to meaningful art forms.

Meet Manveer Singh, an artist who is popularly known as ‘Plasticwalla’. Singh who has won the METIS Initiative on Plastics and Indo-Pacific Ocean 2021 has installed a 15-feet Olive Ridley sea turtle artwork at Puri beach. The artwork was made out of plastic with an aim to make people aware of the ill-effects a plastic can have on the environment, especially the sea and aquatic life.

Currently, the artist is not only collecting plastics through his 40 uniquely designed boxes called as ‘habit-changer box’ placed at several locations across the city, but also interacting with students of different educational institutions to spread the awareness on plastic pollution.

Through his single-handed approach and team of dedicated workforce to manage the plastic pollution, Manveer has so far helped in up-cycling/reusing more than 350 kg of plastics in India.
