New Delhi: Actor Dhanush on Monday announced that he and his wife Aishwaryaa have parted ways after 18 years of marriage. Dhanush and Aishwaryaa both announced their separation issuing an identical statement on social media. The couple is parents to two boys, Yatra and Linga, aged 15 and 11 respectively.
Taking to Twitter to announce the separation, the actor wrote, “18 years of togetherness as friends, couple as parents and well-wishers to each other. The journey has been of growth, understanding, adjusting, and adapting. Today we stand at a place where our paths separate. Aishwaryaa and I have decided to part ways as a couple and take time to understand us as individuals for the better.”
Dhanush in his shared statement, apart from revealing the shocking news also asked people to respect their decision and give them the needed privacy to deal with this.
While Dhanush shared the news on Twitter, Aishwaryaa shared the same note on Instagram with a caption, “No caption needed, only your understanding and your love necessary!”
Aishwaryaa is superstar Rajinikanth’s eleder daughter and is a film director and a playback singer.
The news came as a shock to everyone as it was just three months ago, when Aishwaryaa dedicated a post to Dhanush on Instagram. In October, Dhanush and Aishwayaa’s father Rajinikanth attended the prestigious National Awards ceremony in New Delhi. While Rajinikanth was honoured with the Dadasaheb Phalke Award, Dhanush had won the National Film Award in the Best Actor category for his performance in Asuran. Captioning the beautiful picture, she wrote, “They are mine and this is history. #prouddaughter #proudwife.”
The couple got married in 2004 and welcomed their first son Yatra in 2006. Later, in 2010, they had their second son Linga. The couple who has now parted their ways had also collaborated on the work front as well, with Aishwaryaa directing the movie 3, starring Dhanush and Shruthi Haasan, and the black comedy Vai Raja Vai.
