There is a festive mood across many states of India because of the Navratri festival. While garba and dandiya have been a part of the nine-day celebrations, the prisoners of Indore Central Jail also got a chance to perform these, as jail authorities organised garba and dandiya event for them.
It was the first time that such an event was organised in the jail for the occasion of Navratri. The male prisoners performed dandiya and the women prisoners played garba. They had even practiced for the performances a few days ago.
The jail superintendent Alka Sonkar was also a part of the festivities and sang devotional songs on stage at the event.
Sonkar said that one of the objectives of the event was skill development and improvement of moral conduct among the inmates, so that they can function in the mainstream society.
