Endangered Pangolin Spotted In Noida, Rescued By Police

A Pangolin, which is an endangered mammal species, also called scaly anteater, was rescued by the Noida phase 3 Police on Saturday. It was handed over to the forest department by the Police.

The animal, which is not a common sight for people, was spotted by locals of Behlolpur area.

The scales and meat of the Pangolin are said to be in high demand, making it a highly trafficked animal.

Both Indian & Chinese Pangolin are listed in Schedule-1 of Wildlife Protection Law (1972), due to which hunting, trade, or utilization of the species or their body parts & derivates is banned.

A few days ago, more than 14 kg of Pangolin scales were seized in Odisha’s Dhenkanal district, in what is the biggest recovery of pangolin scales in the state so far.
