Monsoon Mayhem: Gurugram Goes Under As Civic Systems Crumble

Most parts of India welcomed the monsoons with open arms, anticipating a good crop output and a much-needed relief from the blistering summer heat. However, heavy rains in Gurugram had thrown life off-balance. Gurugram woke up to heavy downpour and thunderstorm on July 19.

The India Meteorological Department had said that such intense spells of rain and the accompanying strong winds caused slippery roads and traffic disruption on roads, damaged had horticulture and standing crops and destructed vulnerable structures.

Gurugram’s Traffic Police tweeted and informed about the waterlogging issues and urged commuters to plan their travel accordingly.

Vehicles were partially submerged in water due to heavy rain in Gurugram. The road outside Sheetla Mata Mandir in the old city was the worst-affected. Severe waterlogging had also been reported in Gurugram’s Southern Peripheral Road (SPR) due to heavy rainfall.

At least three underpasses namely- Rajiv Chowk, Hero Honda Chowk, and Iffco Chowk, were closed due to rainwater accumulation.
