IPL 2021 UAE, CSK vs MI Match Preview: Former India Selector & Cricketer, Saba Karim On Who’s Going To Turn It Around This Time

Ashwin will play a very critical role in Delhi Capitals’s road to success as well as for World T20, said Saba Karim.

Former Indian cricketer and selector, Saba Karim, welcomed Ravichandran Ashwin’s comeback into the shortest format of the game by getting picked into the India team for the World T20 and his performance in the second leg of IPL could be a perfect starter before the main course.

“This could be a turning point for R Ashwin. It can really re-invent him because he has got back to the national side after so many years. This is a wonderful opportunity for him to come good at the IPL and continue with the same kind of form in the World T20. For the last two seasons, he has done well for Delhi Capitals. He is one of the main weapons of the Delhi team. He is the kind of bowler who can contribute to the power play. He is an attacking bowler. Even if he doesn’t pick wickets, he is extremely frugal. So all these things go a long way in the composition of the side and in the performance of the team. So, Ashwin will play a very critical role in Delhi Capitals’s road to success as well as for World T20,” Saba Karim told India Ahead in a Facebook chat on Sunday afternoon.

“Yes, I do feel that this is the different phase of Ashwin’s career. The way he re-invented himself as a Test match bowler in overseas conditions, that is the kind of attitude and hard work he has to put in here also,” Karim, who is a part of the talent scoring team for the Delhi Capitals, suggested.

When asked to comment on seeing a lot of former Indian cricketer Anil Kumble is Ashwin’s approach, Karim said: “I agree that he is an aggressive player and has a lot of intellect. He thinks about the game. He has a vision of how the game should be played. He has a mind of his own and knows how to set fields. These things are so important. He has come to a stage where he can offer so much to the youngsters in the side. Once he is given that kind of security that you have to play a leadership role in whatever side you play, we see a different side of R Ashwin. That is expected of him now at this stage of his career,” Karim said.

Before he signed off, Karim hoped to see a new IPL champion in 2021!
