BALDEV Kaur, mother of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Labh Singh Ugoke from Punjab, is back at a government school to resume her work as a sweeper.
Singh, who defeated the outgoing Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi from the Bhadaur seat with a margin of 37,550 votes, used to work in a mobile repairing shop.
” Jhadu is an important part of my life. I’ll continue to do my duty at the school. After all, it is the Jhadu that made him win the elections”, says Kaur.
Expressing her happiness over her son’s victory on an AAP ticket, Kaur said, “Jhadu is our everything.”
“We have always worked hard to earn money. Irrespective of my son’s position, I will continue to perform my duty in the school,” said Kaur.
Singh’s father, Darshan Singh, a driver, said the family will continue to live the way it used to and nothing much would change, now that their son has become an MLA.
Singh comes from a family, where everyone works to make ends meet.
“We have lived in poverty all our life and have seen the worst of days. I have told Labh not to forget where we belong to. He must fight for the downtrodden,” Kaur says.
The AAP bagged a landslide victory in the Punjab polls, winning 92 Assembly seats, pushing most of its rivals to the margins. Congress won 18 seats in the 117-member Assembly.
