Legendary women fast bowler Jhulan Goswami backed Virat Kohli to fire all guns blazing in days to come and said that not scoring big runs isn’t a big deal. In a candid Facebook chat with India Ahead, Jhulan pointed out that even though she went through some bad phases and subsequently came back strongly.
“All of us confront bad days. I am not at all surprised by anything. Not that Virat Kohli isn’t scoring runs. You have to see the positive side of it. He is getting good starts but not getting those big ones. We are used to seeing him scoring big hundreds. We are not used to seeing him scoring 70s and 80s, and perhaps that is why people are thinking that he isn’t scoring runs,” Jhulan said while talking about Test captain Kohli.
She also added that it is a matter of time when Kohli would get back to his ways and start scoring heavily, which he has done so consistently over the years. “He will play the way he wants to play. Everybody wants to compete in a big way. I can’t even take five wickets in every game I play for India. That is not going to happen like this. There will be ups and downs. This is a part of life,” Jhulan said.
“From what I have seen of Kohli, I haven’t seen him looking off-color. His cover drives are amazing to watch. He is aggressive and bats with good intent. I like Virat Kohli a lot,” she added.
Jhulan, a part of the Indian team for the 2022 World Cup in New Zealand, is also excited about the 50-over competition. “Our team has managed to play two finals in the last ICC events. So, this time, we are going to give our best, and I am sure our bilateral series against New Zealand before the actual tournament will help us to prepare well,” a hopeful Jhulan added.
