Incessant rain, cloud burst, flash floods and rising of water level of various nallahs and rivers kept normal life out of gear in Jammu and Kashmir on 28 July. A remote village in the Kishtwar district of Jammu and Kashmir witnessed flash floods triggered by a cloudburst. A search and rescue operation by police, Army and State Disaster Response Force is underway to locate the missing people.
According to the officials, flash floods hit the village at around 4:30 am when most of the people were asleep. Meanwhile, the water level has increased in the Chenab River at Doda district due to heavy rainfall in the region. In Amarnath, the holy cave was also impacted due to cloudburst. Fortunately, no loss of life or injury was reported in the incident as ‘yatris’ were not present at the cave. Kargil’s Kharbu village woke up to massive flash floods that damaged the agriculture fields, inundating residential houses and a hydroelectric power project.
People have been displaced to safer areas and no loss of life have been reported yet. Expressing concerns over the ongoing mayhem, political leader, Omar Abdullah took to twitter and paid his condolences to those who lost their lives due to the cloudburst.
