IT’S been two years since the tragic death of NBA player Kobe Bryant and his daughter Gianna Bryant. To honour the duo, a bronze sculpture has been brought to the crash site where they died alongside 7 others in Calabasas, California. Kobe Bryant played his entire 20-year career with the Los Angeles Lakers of the National Basketball Association.

The 73-kg bronze statue depicts the pair wearing basketball kits while sharing loving glance as Gigi holds Kobe’s hand as it rests on her shoulder.

Sculpted by Dan Medina, the statue pays tribute to all the victims of the 26 January 2020 crash. “Heroes come and go but legends are forever” has been inscribed at the base of the statue.

On January 26 2020, a helicopter carrying Bryant and seven others towards a girls’ basketball tournament crashed in the hills west of LA.
