As Durga Puja approaches closer, West Bengal gears up its preparations of decorating pandals and Durga idols.
Every year, the people of Kolkata brainstorm into new themes of the pandals and idols, which are unique and innovative in their own way.
Kolkata’s Sreebhumi Sporting Club that has always been a crowd puller came up with one such unique pandal wherein they replicated Dubai’s Iconic Tower Burj Khalifa.
The famous tower in Dubai stands at 2,722 ft., with 163 floors. However, the tower at Sreebhumi will be at least 145 ft. tall.
The pandal is patronized by state’s Fire and Emergency Services minister Sujit Bose, who said that the 145 feet tall Burj Khalifa pandal has special lighting arrangements to give it a majestic look in the night.
Besides pandals, the gold ornaments which will be worn by Goddess Durga will also be special like every other year. The idol and her entourage will be traditionally sculpted by Pradip Rudra Pal while the decoration of the pandal is being done by Romeo Hazra.
Meanwhile, in Kolkata’s Baguiati, Ma Durga idol adorned a golden designer saree at a pandal. Reportedly, the saree in which six grams of gold have been used, costs ₹1.5 lakh. Apparently, the eyes of the idol are also made of more than 10 grams of gold.
As per the guidelines issued by the West Bengal government, pandals shall have to be spacious and open from all sides with separate entry-exit points.
